There are several good possibilities for using a Garden Dome as a garage or for adding a garage door, large double door, or door with adjacent windows.

1. Octa Dome 4, Class 2 -X1
Place garage door in the lower large rectangle in the -X1 version.

If your longest struts are 8 ft, diameter is 28 ft and lower large rectangle area is 140" width x 98" height. Total height is 17'-9"; Connector Kit has 41 Connector Hubs.*

2. RCO-S-X1
Similar but easier, make square pyramid edges from 10 ft boards to achieve adequate size.

If long struts are 10 ft. (square pyramids edges), diameter is 28' - 9", total height is 19 ft. (not counting Cupola); opening for garage door is 10 x 10 ft. Connector Kit contains 37 Connector Hubs.

The 1/3 dome "roof cap" on either of these can be mounted on a conventionally built riser wall, made as high as you need, or use the VBO non-triangled riser wall built with Connector Hubs.

3. GD1 - X1
Maximum size achievable with 8 ft boards as shown, 26'-6" diameter. An extension can come off the dome to make a vertical place for the garage door, add the VBO to achieve more height as needed.

As shown: VBO is 48", total height is 20 ft., opening: 183 wide x 112 height at upper central Connector Hub.

Alternate opening is 153" high,  with vertical area height 112" - better size for a garage door:


4. Same dome but rotated gives 6 sides at base with 3 possible vertical areas for doors, windows, or extension. see http://www.gardendome.com/dodeca_dome/dodeca_house.html

It already has extra height so the VBO may not be needed. Is same as the Star Dome 2 without the Stars, so is simpler / less expensive (less parts) but the miter/ bevel FI struts need to be used for roof support. 26' - 6" diameter (longest strut is 8 ft.) - opening at bottom - 186", opening height - 104" , opening at top - 112";  total height 17' - 7" Only 22 Connector Hubs as shown. Openings may be extensions to add floor space.

Most other domes can be garages or made large enough for a garage door entrance. For example, the EZ Max Zome , Tetra Dome 3-HZ-X1 , TR-CO Dome

Tetra Dome 3 HZ -X1 as a garage for a small or medium size car. The Porsche 944 is to scale, 167" long by 68" wide.
Special feature: a 4 x 8 ft sheet cut diagonally to make 2 identical right triangles, will completely cover an upper triangle. 12 ten ft boards are used to make the dome this size. Other boards used are 8 ft and 92-5/8"
Diameter across base corners = 18 ft 5 in
Across hexagon edges [flats] at base: = 16 ft
Height: 10 ft 4 in
Rectangle entrance height with this diameter is 79"; dimensions: 7'-11 1/2" wide x 6'-5 3/4" high
